LUMBERVILLE, PA
Lumberville, Pennsylvania, is located along the Delaware River, six miles north of the town of New Hope. This is on the outskirts of Philadelphia. Imagine a very young American colony. This is Lumberville, left undisturbed for over 200 years, hidden away in Bucks County. Explore the history of canal boat travel of the early years of Lumberville. Some boats had whisky, rum, and other liquor available at their own bars. There were also some taverns lining the riverbank—Lumberville was one of those locations. Until 1932, canals in the Delaware river area of Bucks county were a key part of the commerce of the local towns. The canal boats transported timber and coal to be sold in New York and Philadelphia. One noteworthy destination here is a foot bridge which crosses the Delaware River and joins the Bull’s Island Recreation Area in New Jersey with Lumberville. This is the only remaining foot bridge in this region. A country bed and breakfast establishment is just the place for your rejuvenation during your trip. Providing antique beds, views of the river, and good food, these inns will be something you remember for years to come. What a great alternative to the typical hotel! Some of them have been doing business since before the Revolutionary War. Make your reservation today! |
