LAKE NOCKAMIXON, PA
“Nocha-miska-ing”, meaning “the place of soft soil,” is what the Lenni Lanape Tribe of Delaware named this area. This is certainly the place for those who enjoy the outdoors. The most noteworthy attraction is the Nockamixon State Park. The park contains a 1450-acre lake, so be ready to enjoy windsurfing, rowboats, sailboats, pontoons, canoes—a fleet of different boats awaits you! The park also provides many acres of woods where visitors can hunt pheasant, rabbit, deer, or turkey—when in season, of course. Planning for the Nockamixon State Park first began in 1958. The area had been called Tohickon State Park, because of the stream that emptied into Lake Nockamixon. The park was opened in 1973, and continues to grow. You’ll find equestrian trails, and trails for hiking and biking. Swimming in the lake is not permitted, but a pool is available for summer—while winter brings ice skating, ice fishing, sledding and cross-country skiing. Now it’s time to come on in and get warmed up! The perfect place for sweet dreams and resting those muscles is a cozy, quiet, bed and breakfast. You’ll love these accommodations, which will leave you rested and refreshed, ready for another day of outdoor adventures!
